Does Personality Type, Cognitive Style And Study Approach Have An Effect on The Academic Performance of Accounting Students: A Comparative Study of South Africa and Nigeria

Abstract
This paper examines the effect of personality type, cognitive style and study approach on the academic performance of Accounting students in South Africa and Nigeria. It presents relevant literature against the backdrop of South Africa and Nigeria. As existing research have not examined the impact of these three constructs together, this paper observes if these factors individually or collectively are key drivers of the academic performance of accounting students. The study determined that personality and nationality had an impact on the Grade Point Average of the students. The outcome will be useful in setting admission policy for entry into accounting programs as well as help students evolve a strategy to help them pass their exams.
