Effects of nitric oxide application on seed germination of purslane (portulacaoleraceal.) Under drought stress

Abstract
Drought stress is one of the abiotic stress factors that affect plant growth significantly.Firstly, plants begin to damage in the germination stage under drought conditions. Its known that exogenous nitric oxide (NO) applications increase tolerance against some stress in plants. Therefore, in this study was investigated that the effects of NO application under drought stress on the germination of seeds of purslane(PortulacaoleraceaL.). Seeds were incubated for 12 hours in NO solution (0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 M sodium nitroprossr). Polyethylene glycol-6000 (PEG-6000) was used to create of drought stress at different levels(-0.20, -0.75 and -1.53 MPa PEG) and the seeds were allowed to germinate at 25oC.The effect of the application was determined by calculating the germination rate of the seeds. As a result of this study, seed germination rate of decline is not much in the drought levels of -0.20 and -0.75 MPa, but seed germination rate decreases by increasing drought levels (-1.53 MPa) significantly. Nevertheless, application of nitric oxide reduced the negative effects of the drought conditions. Especially, it was determined that applications of 50 and 100 M NO provide better results on seed germination under drought condition. Keywords Drought, Nitric Oxide, Germination, Purslane.
