Gifted Elementary Mathematics Education Model

Nowadays, different properties and needs of gifted students in regular classrooms remain on the agenda. In line with these need, their problems in educational environments as well as teacherís difficulties about lack of knowledge about these students are faced as drawback and indication of inequality in the educational opportunities for gifted students. Based on this and needs analysis, an education model for gifted elementary mathematics lessons were developed as a suggestion and framework for math lessons in Turkey. Available literature about mathematically gifted studentsí characteristics and developmental needs were taken into consideration while structuring the model. Therefore, this study could be beneficial for meeting special needs of gifted students by proposing an instructional model for gifted students in mathematics classrooms and addressing a way for achieving this aim in mathematics education by filling the gap both in practice and theory.
