E-Mentoring Activities in Online Programming Communities: An Empirical Study on GitHub Education Community

Abstract
In this study, we focus on online programming communities and we aim at identifying and understanding e-mentoring activities carried out in this context. We performed a qualitative study on a education community from GitHub and identified a total of 29 different activities organized into 9 categories of activities. The results of our study provide insights into e-mentoring activities performed in GitHub Education community. We compare these results to our previous study performed on Stack Overflow and discuss the (dis)similarities between these two online programming communities.
