Paper Title
The Effectiveness of Fiscal Policy in Combating the Asian and Global Financial Crises: The Case of Thailand

Abstract
This paper evaluates the effectiveness of fiscal policy in combating the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis (AFC) and the 2008 Global Financial Crisis (GFC). The literature on Thailand’s fiscal policy is generally sporadic. Studies on the role of fiscal policy in stabilising output and helping the country to combat the AFC and GFC are controversial. To address the inadequacies and to shed new light on the theme, this study evaluates the effectiveness of fiscal policy on output by taking into account contemporaneous relationships between fiscal, monetary, price and output variables and the interactions between the fiscal variables and monetary variable (interest rate).
