Cryptic Candida Species in Bloodstream Strains: Identification and Susceptibility Profile to Azole Drugs
Candidemia is associated with high rate of mortality and the causative agents are yeast species of Candida. Molecular identification tools yielded the discovery of new cryptic species within the larger species complexes, e.g., C. albicans, C. parapsilosis, C. glabrata, C. haemulonii and Meyerozyma guilliermondii (Candida guilliermondii). In this study, we screened a large collection of complex species strains for the presence of cryptic and closely related species in order to elucidate the member distribution and their antifungal susceptibility profile.
