Teacher’s Talk Based On Interpersonal Metaphor Of Mood

Abstract
This study is to analyze interpersonal metaphor of mood used by the English teacher through communication in classroom interaction. The aims of this study were: (1) To find out the kinds of interpersonal metaphor of mood used in Teacher Talk. (2) To describe interpersonal metaphor of mood in Teacher Talk. The design of the research used qualitative research. To answer the problems of the study, the data were collected by observation, and recording. The results of this research were, (1) The types of interpersonal metaphor of mood that have been found in teacher talk in the classroom are interrogative, imperative, and declarative as the most dominant type of interpersonal metaphor of mood used by the English teacher during the teaching and learning process in the classroom. (2) Among interpersonal metaphor of mood types, it was found that statement metaphorically realized in interrogative and imperative which is the congruent form of statement is declarative mood, question metaphorically realized in declarative which is the congruent form of question is interrogative mood, and command metaphorically realized in declarative which is the congruent form of command is imperative mood. The use of interpersonal metaphor of mood is closely related to social context. The language used by the teacher relatively formal as shown in the widely used of declarative mood that aimed to avoid direct order and being superior which risk lowering the students during teaching and learning process in the classroom.
