Role Of Nigerian Academics In Domesticating An International English Literacy Teaching Model: The Case Study The Of Jigawa State Jolly Phonics Project

Abstract
This study investigates the effectiveness or otherwise of an international model of teaching taking Jigawa State, Nigeria as a case study. The paper therefore dwells on the critical role of home academics in adapting an international model of teaching to suit local linguistic and cultural settings of the host country. The subscription on Nigeria to MDGs with the objective of providing qualitative education at basic education level by government made International Intervention in all parts of Nigeria visible. Such intervention is usually technical that tends to provide teachers with internationally tested models that will enhance their service delivery and bring about improvement in teaching and learning. The Data were collected through Universal Basic Education Board, NGOs and Focus Group Discussions. Key Words- Nigerian Academics, English Literacy, Jolly Phonics, Synthetic Reading, Jigawa State.
