Fluorescence and Phosphorescence Emissions of SrAl2O4:Eu2+, Dy3+ Pigment in Vitreous Matrix
Optical properties of SrAl2O4:Eu+2+,Dy+3+ pigment and photoluminescence ofpigment bearing glaze layerwere investigated in terms of excitation and emission characteristics. The phosphorescent pigment was synthesized with solid state sintering method and the resultant powder wasmanually sieved into three sizes as course, medium and fine. These pigment powders are separately mixed with a certain frit and applied on pre–glazed single–fired wall tile surface. Frit–pigment mixtures samples were fired in a muffle furnace for vitrification.Fluorescence and phosphorescenceemissions ofglazes wereidentifiedwith spectrometer. Emission intensities of raw pigments were compared with those of the glazes in which different powder size pigments were used. Excitation band broadening and phosphorescent to fluorescent alteration phenomena were correlatedwith vitrification and dissolution of pigment crystallites in the matrix.
