Oil Pipelines: The Menace of Vandalism with Drastic Panacea in Africa

Abstract
Oil pipeline vandalism (OPV) is on alarming proliferation in Africa. The inclining rate of oil theft, illegal bunkering and egregious OPV is vehemently beckoning exigent intervention of concerned government and international agencies. Invariably, OPV is not only devastating to any national economy but also leads to massive decimation of human life and destruction of property through fire outbreak, reduced agricultural productivity and disruption of ecosystem through oil spillage. In some places at the western part, vandals are fully armed and haunt to harm or kidnap both expatriates and domestic staff of oil companies. This study identifies the causes, dangers of OPV and suggests practical solution to the problem. Keywords - Vandalism, Theft, Economy, Oil.
