Emergence of End-to-End Encryption and Perception Among Social Media Users in Kolkata

Abstract
The paper explores how end-to-end encryption has emerged as a popular feature of social media platforms used for the purpose of interpersonal communication. End-to-end encryption is discussed in detail while also addressing the issues of privacy encompassing mediated communication. The manner in which mediated communication has changed due to the emergence of end-to-end encryption has also been analyzed. The paper sheds lights on the changing perception among common users of social media platforms in Kolkata about privacy and safety due to the incorporation of the mentioned security feature. As such, an analytical view of the metamorphosis of security measures on the social media platforms and corresponding alteration in public perception makes way for better understanding of how technology has come to impact interpersonal communication and human community.
