Corporate Social Responsibility: The Case of Higher Education in Thailand

Abstract
Academic institution either private or public ones are in need of durable corporate strategies in order to be successful in the highly competitive market environment and globalization Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) becomes one of the highly preferred strategies by higher education institutions for gaining a good reputation and a competitive advantage. This case study aims to understand the perceptions, practices, role of CSR among its stockholders, and meanings of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the context of higher education in Thailand. Academic institutions are the pillar that shape the mindset of the young generation, have a large role to play on the road toward further development of field-oriented CSR practices. The corporate social responsibility of Kasetsart University was reflected in the vision itself: to work with local communities and embrace social responsibilities; and in goal: a socially responsible university which aligned in the QA component enacted by the Commission of Higher Education in Thailand. This study found out that university in Thailand focused on the USR to maintain the relationship among stakeholders. CSR is a key for success in any society for any education institution. CSR is very important in achieving its future directions that benefits not only the institution itself, but also beneficial to the society in general. Academic institutions in order to be successful in CSR strategy, CSR actions has to be internalized and must be supported by the management.
