What did President Park Chung-Hee’s Authoritarian Regime Contribute to Economic Development and Democracy of South Korea?

Abstract
Park’s authoritarian regime led successful economic growth and social integration of South Korea in 1960s and 1970s. However his regime is often described as the obstacle of the development of democracy in South Korea by the opposing groups of Park’s regime. Despite such critiques, Park’s authoritarianism is considered as one of key component led the Miracle of Han’s river, often described as a spectacular economic growth and development of South Korea. This article is to explain the implication of Park’s authoritarian regime in South Korea’s economic development and democracy by focusing the history of authoritarianism, achievements and disadvantages of Park’s strong authoritarianism.
