Urban-Rural Disparity In Middle Schools Teachers Professionalism And Teachers Professional Development In West Java, Indonesia

Abstract
This study examines the urban-rural disparity of lower-secondary school teacher professioanlism and teacher professional development in West Java province of Indonesia. TALIS 2013 teacher survey questioner, containing items related to teacher professional practices and teacher professional development experienced, was administered to lower-secondary school teachers in urban and rural locations of five administrative areas. In this study 100 teachers from urban schools and 72 teachers from rural locations were involved as respondents. It is evidenced that there is a quite serious urban-rural disparity in professionalism and teacher professional development. Professionalism of lower secondary teachers in rural schools are less developed compared to urban schools, and there are less teacher development program for rural school teachers to enhance their professionalism.
