Building Information Modelling (BIM) Adoption for Building Maintenance Among Local Authorities in Malaysia

Abstract
Building Information Modelling (BIM) is one of the main agendas in the transformation ofthe construction industry in Malaysia.Severalgovernment projectshavebeenconstructed in Malaysia through the adoption ofBIM since it was first introduced by Public Works Department (PWD). The introduction of BIM by PWD also emphasized the need of other government agencies such as Local Authorities to implement BIM in their core business. Hence, the aim of thispaperis to discuss building maintenance in a narrow sense of the possibility of BIM adoptionamongLocal Authorities in Malaysia.Thispaper conducted an analysis on the literature review to discussedthe benefitsof BIM in regard to building maintenance issues and challenges towards the adoption strategies.The findings of literature review have been critically analysed to develope the theoretical framework of this study. Apart from that, this paper may serve as a reference for critical studies in exploringthe current practices in order to make recommendations to the existing building maintenance practices through the adoption of BIM amongLocal Authoritiesin Malaysia.
