Paper Title
National Identity and Primary Education: The Image of Poland in Polish Elementary School Textbooks

Abstract
In 2017, a year before 100th anniversary of Poland regaining independence, new government introduced an education system reform. As a consequence, new government-approved textbooks were published. The aim of this study is to examine the image of Poland in the latest Polish textbooks for first grade of elementary school. The results show that Poland is depicted mostly as a naturally beautiful country with two main cities: Warsaw and Cracow (current and former capital). Image of Poland as a member of European Union also can be seen in some, but not all, of the analyzed textbooks. It seems significant that the representation of modern Poland did not appear almost at all. Index terms - Education, Elementary School, Poland, Nation, textbooks.
