The Effect of Educational Program about Tuberculosis Prevention and Control on Nurses Knowledge and Performance, at ALSHAB Teaching Hospital. Khartoum State, Sudan.

Abstract
Background: The increasing number of tuberculosis cases all over the world and in developing countries specifically, urgently demands a well trained health workforce. Nurses play an important role in controlling and preventing tuberculosis infection. Material and Methods: This is Interventional research study aimed at determining the effect of applying an educational program about care of pts. With tuberculosis on nurses knowledge and performance during the academic year (2015 – 2016) at alshaab teatching hospital.The sample size was the total coverage consisted of 72 nurse. The data were collected using a pre designed questionnaire and observational checklist were used to monitor the nurses’ clinical performance ( pre and post training program). The data was analyzed using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS). The results showed that the nurses were acquired knowledge after intervention specially in relation to treatment strategy and nursing role regards management of pulmonary tuberculosis ,prevention and control. (98.5 , 99.2% and 81.9%) respectively Also the practical skills was improved Conclusion: based on the results the study concluded that the knowledge and practice for all study group was improved .
