Paper Title
Nonlinear Oscillation of Spur Gears using Contact Forces

Abstract
Contact mechanics of gears is considered in which the surface roughness of the gear is included. The study involves a contact mechanics model of the rough surfaces. Free and forced vibrations of the gear tooth are considered when subject to a constant compressive force. The finding shows that both contact damping and contact natural frequency relate to the nominal geometrical properties as well as micron scale surface roughness of the gear tooth. The micron scale surface roughness parameters are defined based on three statistical parameters of the surface which include standard deviation of asperity height distribution, average asperity summit curvature and area density of asperity height distribution, average asperity summit curvature and area density of asperities.
