Bloch Acoustic Surface Wave Excitation by using Phononic Crystal Waveguide Coupling

Abstract
In this paper, a way to excite a Bloch surface wave by coupling from the phononic crystal waveguide is presented. The Bloch surface mode appears in the band-gap by modifying the surface cylinders in a two-dimensional phononic crystal. The dispersion relation curve of surface modes will be affected when the radius of surface rods are altered. The co-directional and contra-directional couplings which come from Bloch surface mode and waveguide mode are also discussed. The coupled mode theory is used to study the coupling between the waveguide and surface mode of phononic crystals. The power flows of the surface coupling are also investigated by finite element simulation. Keywords - Phononic Crystal, Surface Wave, Coupling, Waveguide
